Hostess Sno Balls- Little Pillows of Happiness

4 Jun

One thing in this world that I really LOVE are Hostess Sno Balls.  These coconut covered marshmallows with cream filled chocolate cake inside are like little fluffy pillows of happiness.  Who wouldn’t love a combination of such deliciousness?

My favorite thing about Sno Balls (besides the yumminess) is that they come in all different colors.  My favorite of course are the pink ones…obviously.  During Halloween they sell them in orange.  During St. Patty’s day they sell them in green, and I even saw them in bright blue….not really sure what that was for.  And of course there’s the traditional white ones.

I found a recipe for a giant “Sno Ball” cake.  I am going to attempt to bake this at some point in my life and will keep you posted with the results.  Keep in mind, I pretty much suck at baking but I will give it my best shot.  So…do yourself a favor and head to the grocery store, 7-11, Quick Check, or any gas station with a convenience store and buy yourself some Sno Balls.  You won’t be disappointed.

Pork Roll- Its Jerseylicious!

3 Jun

For those of you that don’t live in New Jersey, you are probably not aware of one of the best creations on earth….PORK ROLL!  I’m not even exactly sure what pork roll is.  I know that it was made some time in the 19th century by someone named John Taylor from Trenton, NJ, which is why it is also known as “Taylor Ham”.  Pork Roll is typically only found in New Jersey, which is one of the only 3 things that I actually like about New Jersey.  First thing I like about New Jersey is diners.  Second, is boardwalk food.  Third, is pork roll.  That is pretty much it 🙂

Pork Roll, Egg, Cheese, Salt, Pepper, & Ketchup on a roll….that’s the only way to do it ladies and gentleman.  It is pretty much one of my top 5 favorite things to eat for breakfast.  If you live in the area, head on over to the Woodbridge Deli.  They make some goooood ones! Visit their site http://www.woodbridgedeli.net

So, there you have it friends…if you ever visit New Jersey, be sure to have some pork roll.  If you already live in New Jersey, you should feel proud that this greasy, fattening, delicious piece of meat can’t be found anywhere else in the country.  Lucky us!

English Muffins? Who knew?

3 Apr

Never in a million years would I have thought that English muffins can be so amazing.  Don’t get me wrong, I do love the occasional Thomas English Muffin, but these English muffins are no comparison to Thomas’.  My family received a lovely Harry and David gift basket containing 2 packs of Wolferman’s Signature English Muffins.  If I wasn’t afraid of gaining 50lbs I would be eating them with every meal with the occasional snack in between!

The first thing that makes Wolferman’s Signature English Muffins so amazing is that they are about 3 inches thicker than the traditional Thomas English Muffin.  Put it this way….compared to Wolferman’s…Thomas English muffins look like they were stepped on and then run over by a mac truck.  Another thing that makes these so amazing is that they come in a variety of flavors such as San Francisco Sour Dough, Cheddar Cheese, Pumpkin Spice, Cinnamon Raisin, Chocolate Chip, and many other forms of deliciousness.  They even come in miniature size for those of you who like to watch your waist line.  So cute!

I did some research and found that these English muffins are not only available at Harry and David, they are also available at http://www.wolfermans.com.  You can create a custom package with a variety of flavors and even choose from an assortment of jams to compliment your muffins!  Love it!

In conclusion, I would like to thank Wolferman’s for introducing me to another piece of deliciousness to tempt me away from following my diet.

Best Brownie of My Life

The best brownie I ever had in my entire life is from Artisserie Bakery in Hamilton, NJ. I’ve never been to the actual bakery. They randomly show up at work selling delicious goodies and trying to make me fat almost every week.

Inside the delicious chocolate coating is a chewy fudgy amazing chunk of heaven. It is literally the best brownie ever. If anyone thinks they can challenge this I will gladly accept other brownies for a taste test!

2 Fat Guys…Fuggetaboutit!

25 Mar

Image

In my first post I stated that there will be no negative reviews in my blog and it would only be filled with delicious awesomeness.  However, this place was really annoying, so I feel like I need to share it with everyone so no one wastes their time.

A few days ago, I saw a commercial for a restaurant called 2 Fat Guys in Colonia, NJ.  As soon as I heard the name my immediate thought was “OMG I NEED to go there.”  The commercial is literally two fat Italian guys boasting about having best pizza and boardwalk food in NJ.  I love me some boardwalk food so I was very excited to try this place out.

When we first walked into the restaurant there is a sign that says “Please wait to be seated.”  We were the only customers in there and there were several people behind the counter, yet we still had to wait an awkward amount of time to sit in the dining area.  This was annoying, but once I saw their menu I decided to let it go because I was sure our food was going to be awesome.  Their menu consists of traditional Italian dinners, Pizza, and Boardwalk Fare…all reasonably priced.  I decided to get the traditional “Boardwalk Sausage Sandwich” and “Boardwalk Fries”.  Ron decided to get a sandwich called “The Godfather”.

The Godfather

Boardwalk Sausage Sandwich

STRIKE ONE: First of all, their so-called “Boardwalk Food” is an insult to actual boardwalk food.  The sausage in my sandwich hardly had any flavor and the bread was dry and tasteless.  In addition, there was a cheese sauce on there…like the kind you put on a cheese steak.  Never have I ever had cheese sauce on a sausage sandwich down the shore.  Maybe it is available, but I never heard of it nor would I choose to put this on a sausage sandwich.  The Godfather was also a disappointment.  In the wise words of my boyfriend Ron, it tasted like ” A  @#%^%$#  big ass hot pocket filled with grease and sorrow.” If you are going to name a sandwich The Godfather…you better not mess around.  Don’t even get me started on the “Boardwalk Fries”.  I don’t know where these fat guys get fries down the shore because these fries were NOTHING like boardwalk fries.  Boardwalk fries are fresh cut fries such as “Curly’s Fries” and are amazing with some malt vinegar.  The fries at 2 Fat Guys were more like diner fries.  I could’ve made better boardwalk fries myself.  The boardwalk food at 2 Fat Guys is just about as authentic as “The Jersey Shore” show.

STRIKE TWO:  Their dining room has two flat screen TV’s which in my opinion is pretty distracting and annoying if you are trying to have a nice dinner.  To make it worse, one TV was playing a show called “Unfaithful- Stories of Deception” .  The surround sound was on so it was playing through out the whole dining area.  The show was about some woman sending sexual text messages and pictures to another man and her boyfriend eventually found out.  They went into a lot of inappropriate details and it was actually uncomfortable to listen to.  There were also several families with young children with them listening to the show.  It was awkward.

STRIKE THREE: After a dinner filled with disappointment, we decided that the only hope left for 2 Fat Guys was some dessert.  They have fried oreos, zeppoles, funnel cakes, and various waffle sundaes on their menu.  I had my heart set on a waffle and ice cream sundae.  How could you screw that up?  Well, I wouldn’t know…because the waitress didn’t even ask if we wanted dessert.  She brought the check, said have a good night, and walked away in less than 3 seconds.  This is one of my pet peeves.  I seriously HATE when restaurants do not ask if you want dessert or anything else before bringing you the check.  It is also stupid on their part because at that point they have an opportunity to make some extra money.

2 Fat Guys also claims to have the best pizza in New Jersey.  Making a statement that you have the best pizza in New Jersey is pretty bold.  I didn’t have any pizza and I’m not planning on it.  It probably sucks just as bad as everything else.

Making a statement that you have the best boardwalk food is just absurd.  I have nothing else to say.

Birthday Cake Oreos….A fiesta in my mouth!

1 Mar

As I was wandering around Wegman’s last weekend I made an incredible discovery….BIRTHDAY CAKE OREOS!  Oreos are one of my favorite cookies ever and of course I love me some birthday cake, so of obviously I decided that these would be awesome, and I purchased the last box on the shelf.  Whoever had the idea to make such a delicious creation needs to receive a major award.

As soon as I opened the package, I could smell the yummy birthday cake aroma.  They are a bit sweeter than regular Oreos, and taste just like funfetti birthday cake!  The entire package was devoured in less than 24 hours (I had some help around the house.)

Not the best picture….but I enojoyed the pretty funfetti colors in the filling.  Nabisco created these Oreos in celebration of their 100th birthday.  They are available for a limited time only.  I hope there are some left in the stores this weekend because I definitely need to stock up on these before they disappear!

Bitches Love Chocolate

16 Feb

One of my favorite things about Valentine’s day is Russell Stover candy hearts.  Who doesn’t love a delicious assortment of chocolates in a pretty little heart shaped box?  I bought myself one this year because first of all I love myself and second of all I love me some chocolate.

Like I said...Bitches. Love. Chocolate.

The good thing about Russell Stover’s hearts is they come in all sizes.  So if you’re feeling a lot of love,  you can buy a giant heart containing 3 pounds of candy.  On the other hand, if you are on a diet or feeling not so loving, you can buy a little heart with just a few pieces.  I bought myself the medium one since I kind of have a love/ hate relationship with chocolate.  If you are a Closet Fat Chick like me you understand what I mean.

Now, listen carefully because I’m about to tell you about something amazing.  If you go to http://www.russelstover.com you can create your own box!  You can pick how much candy you want and you can even pick the specific types of candies to put inside.  My personal favorites are the ones with the raspberry filling.  In the near future, I am going to make myself a giant heart filled with only those candies.  In the meantime, I will just have to continue eating this yummy random assortment until I discover one with raspberry filling.

Pinho’s Famous Custard Cups

29 Jan

One day I will write a post entirely dedicated to the awesomeness of Pinho’s Bakery in Roselle, NJ.  However, today I’m just going to tell you about one specific item from Pinho’s that is insanely delicious….Pasteis de Natas, a classic Portuguese dessert.  For those of you that like to keep things simple like I do, they are also known as Custard Cups or Custard Tarts.

The first thing that I enjoy about these custard cups is the cute little custard cup box they come in.  C’mon…you know its cute.  Anyway…the box says you can’t have just one which is totally true.  I ate two of them just during the 10 minute drive home!
The lightly crisp and flaky pastry is filled with a very creamy egg custard.  I really enjoy the custard, because it has just the right balance of creaminess and sweetness.  These pastries are just the right size and the taste of the custard perfectly compliments the pastry cup therefore making it incredibly easy to eat an entire dozen!  If you are ever in the area, make sure to get some custard cups (atleast a dozen) from Pinho’s Bakery in Roselle, NJ….and stay tuned for a future post about more of their delicious stuff like fresh bread, donuts, cakes, and pastries.  Yum!

Cold Hollow Cider Mill- Waterbury, VT

15 Jan

The cold weather this weekend has got me thinking about the awesome time I had in Waterbury, Vermont two years ago.  There are many reasons why I love Vermont….most of which involve food or beer!  Anyway, during a visit to the Cold Hollow Cider Mill,  I had the pleasure of enjoying the best apple cider donuts EVER.

As soon as you arrive in the parking lot, you know something delicious is about to happen.  You can smell the aroma of freshly baked donuts and apple cider before even getting out of your car.  As soon as you walk in, you can see a long line of people at the donut counter.  As soon as you place your order, the dough is placed in the “cooker”.   A few short minutes later, the warm, fresh donuts are placed in a bag and delivered straight into your patiently waiting hands.  It doesn’t really get any fresher than that.

The donuts are the perfect combination of crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.  I would literally make the 4 and 1/2 hour drive to Waterbury, VT and return to Jersey the same day just to enjoy these incredible donuts.  The Cold Hollow Cider Mill also sells many other varieties of yummyness.  Such as maple syrup, apple cider, fudge, jams and jellies, all of which can be ordered through their website at http://www.coldhollowcidermill.com . You can even order the donuts!  But of course they will lack the “seconds out of the fryer” freshness!
